We run English and maths classes (2 hours, once a week) for young people, at our centre in Old Market, Bristol.

Our groups are small and informal (typically up to 8 learners). We work with learners to identify and work towards their own learning goals. This could be gaining confidence in maths and/or English for further education or employment opportunities or working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

We are an accredited City and Guilds Centre for offering Functional Skills English and maths. We thoroughly assess each learner and together decide on what level to aim for. This could be an Entry level qualification, Level 1, or Level 2 which is equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 or above.

Most of our learners have encountered significant barriers to learning in the past and some have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). We like to meet all new learners on a 1:1 basis at a welcome meeting before they join a class. This way they can meet their tutor, see around the building and feel a little more confident about re-engaging with education after maybe a difficult previous experience.
